Teak
Depending on how teak outdoor furniture is treated and cared for, it will have a different appearance.
If a piece of teak furniture is left untreated, the colour will gradually change to a soft silver grey. The time it takes for the colour to return to its original state is about nine months, depending on the amount of sunlight and rain it is exposed to. All woods have natural imperfections, and these will show up more and more over time, which is part of the beauty of teak. Clean with lukewarm water, mild detergent and a soft cloth. Maintain the furniture with Wood cleaner and Wood protection.
If a piece of teak furniture is treated with oil, the colour will not turn grey but depends on the type of treatment. Lightly sand the surfaces before oiling to get better results. If sanding is not carried out before oiling the wood may cause mould or uneven colour. If teak products are placed outdoors in the open air, Brafab recommends having a cover to protect the products when not in use. Make sure there are gaps between flat surfaces such as a table top so that water does not remain on the table. For example, have something on the table under the furniture cover so that the water runs off, creating an air gap between the cover and the table top and reducing the risk of mould.
Natural coloured brushed teak
Our brushed teak is treated with wood impregnation and normally only requires cleaning with mild detergent. The furniture can be treated with Wood cleaner, Wood protection and teak oil.
White pigmented teak
Clean with lukewarm water, mild detergent or white pigmented soap and a soft cloth. Allow the furniture to dry completely, at least 24 hours, preferably longer. Finish with Wood protection, which is completely colourless and prevents moisture and dirt from penetrating the wood.
In humid or wet climates, or after rain, teak can expand and contract as a natural consequence, which can cause liquid to come out of the teak. However, this will dry out again and disappear naturally.
To care for teak outdoor furniture, we recommend washing it twice a year. Use a soft brush and stroke lightly in the direction of the grain to remove surface dirt. For more stubborn dirt, the wood can be washed with a mixture of mild detergent (e.g. soap) and water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and then allow to dry thoroughly. Be careful when using a pressure washer as it can damage the surface of the wood if the jet is too powerful.
At the beginning of a new season, check all screws and tighten if necessary.
